Court of Appeal of Quebec

Postponement of hearings for the weeks of April 6 to 9, April 14 to 17, April 20 to 24 and April 27 to May 1, 2020

Given the renewal of the declaration of a state of health emergency and the governmental directives announced on March 22 and 23, 2020, the Court of Appeal must postpone to an undetermined date or reschedule the hearings on the roll for the following weeks:

  • April 6 to 9, 2020;
  • April 14 to 17, 2020;
  • April 20 to 24, 2020;
  • April 27 to May 1, 2020.

Notices to that effect will be sent to all the parties or their counsel.

Please note: Parties to an appeal may agree to avail themselves of art. 384 C.C.P., s. 72 of the Rules of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in Criminal Matters or s. 67 of the Regulation of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in Penal Matters and present a joint request to the Court to have the appeal decided without a hearing. If the Court decides that it is appropriate to proceed in this manner, it will notify the parties.

In other respects, in the event of an emergency, parties are asked to contact the Court office in writing (i.e., by letter sent by fax or email - see below for the contact information of the offices of the Court in Montreal and Quebec City) and provide a detailed explanation of the reasons for the emergency. If the Court considers the situation urgent, the Court office will contact counsel or the parties in order to determine the date and conditions for the required hearings.

Reminder - Judge sitting alone

Only urgent matters will be heard. A video conference or conference call will be the preferred method used.
