Wearing of gowns during virtual hearings of the Court of Appeal

The usual rules of decorum that apply in physical courtrooms apply to virtual hearings, including the dress code requirements set out in section 7 of the Civil Practice Regulation, section 8 of the Rules of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in Criminal Matters and section 7 of the Regulation of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in Penal Matters.  Thus, as of March 15, 2021, counsel and articling students will be required to wear a gown, in accordance with those provisions. Until then, we strongly encourage them to do so.
