The Honourable Madam Justice Lucie Fournier
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of the Honourable Madam Justice Lucie Fournier on July 6, 2022.
Justice Fournier was appointed to the Superior Court of Quebec in 2009 and elevated to the Court of Appeal of Quebec in 2019. After obtaining her law degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 1981, she was called to the Quebec Bar in 1982. She practised law in Montreal with the firm Leduc, Lebel (1982 to 1994), then with the firm Lebel & Associés (1994 to 2000). She continued her practice with the firm Robinson, Sheppard, Shapiro until her appointment to the Superior Court of Quebec. During her years practising law, Justice Fournier was a sought‑after speaker and taught at the École de formation professionnelle du Barreau du Québec in the areas of obligations, security instruments, evidence and advocacy skills.
Of Justice Fournier, the Chief Justice of Quebec, Manon Savard, said: “Since her arrival at the Court of Appeal on June 22, 2019, Justice Fournier instilled a very special energy in her colleagues and in staff of the Court. Until the very last moment, she took her duties as a judge to heart, duties she performed with accuracy, pride and sensitivity. It is difficult to accept that this remarkable woman, who was liked and valued by all, could have left us so quickly. We will remember her as she no doubt would have wanted us to—with her great joie de vivre, her infectious laugh and the magnificent smile that lit up her face.”
The Chief Justice of Quebec, her colleagues and staff of the Court of Appeal wish to express their most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Justice Fournier.
