The Court of Appeal of Quebec wishes to warn the public about a series of fraudulent calls in which a person claiming to work for the Court asks them to confirm their social insurance number.
These appeals do not come from the Court of Appeal and constitute an attempt at fraud. The Court asks those who receive such a call not to transmit any personal information and to hang up immediately.
The Court never asks for personal information by telephone or text message.
The Court wishes to assure the public that the personal information it holds has not been compromised. Police authorities have been contacted about this.
Those who are victims of a phishing attempt may contact their local police service, the Sûreté du Québec at 310-4141 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8501.
