Court of Appeal of Quebec

Retirement of Justice Claude C. Gagnon

On January 17, 2020, Justice Claude C. Gagnon will retire from the Court of Appeal of Quebec. Justice Gagnon was appointed a judge of the Superior Court in the district of Quebec in 2003. He was subsequently appointed to the Court of Appeal on November 8, 2013. According to Chief Justice Nicole Duval Hesler, "In addition to being an eminent criminal lawyer, Justice Gagnon is remarkably versatile. His affability, generosity and great availability made his contribution to the Court of Appeal’s work particularly valuable. His colleagues often consulted him on the most difficult questions of criminal law and his extensive knowledge in this field was coupled with sound judgment and much practical sense. The Court was thus fortunate to benefit from his great qualities as a jurist in all the areas of law in which the Court is active.”
