It is with great pride that we have learned of the appointment to the Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur of the Right Honourable Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of Canada and formerly a justice of the Court of Appeal of Quebec, and of the Honourable Suzanne Gagné, justice of the Court of Appeal of Quebec.
Chief Justice Wagner was appointed to the rank of Commandeur de la Légion d'honneur and received the insignia on April 10, 2024 from the Prime Minister of the French Republic, Mr. Gabriel Attal, during a ceremony held in his honour at the Embassy of France in Ottawa. His induction into the Légion d'honneur, France’s highest honour, recognizes his remarkable career and his dedication to justice.
At a ceremony held in Quebec City on April 11, 2024 Justice Suzanne Gagné was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur and received the insignia from Mr. Éric Dupond-Moretti, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals of the French Republic. This appointment recognizes her contribution to the reflection on the recent implementation of the amicable settlement policy in France in light of Quebec’s experience in judicial mediation.
All justices of the Court of Appeal join in congratulating Chief Justice Richard Wagner and Justice of the Court of Appeal Suzanne Gagné on these honours, which reflect on the Quebec and Canadian judiciary as a whole as well as on the Court of Appeal of Quebec.
