On June 18, 2024, the Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced the appointment of the Honourable Myriam Lachance as a puisne judge of the Court of Appeal of Quebec at its seat in Montreal. Justice Lachance is replacing Justice Robert Mainville, who opted to become a supernumerary judge.
Justice Myriam Lachance earned a Bachelor of Laws from the Université de Sherbrooke and was called to the Barreau du Québec in 1994. Before becoming a member of the judiciary, she practised in the fields of criminal law, disciplinary law and professional ethics, and she participated in internal police investigations. Justice Lachance also served as Bâtonnière of the Barreau de Saint-François from 2009 to 2010. In 2014, she was appointed a judge in the Criminal and Penal Division of the Court of Québec for the district of Montreal and, in 2017, a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for the district of Montreal.
On behalf of all the justices of the Quebec Court of Appeal, Chief Justice Manon Savard extends the warmest of welcomes to Justice Lachance and is delighted by this appointment.
