Court of Appeal of Quebec

Appointment of the Honourable Judith Harvie

Yesterday, the Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced the appointment of the Honourable Judith Harvie as a puisne judge of the Court of Appeal of Quebec at its seat in Montreal. Justice Harvie will occupy a puisne judgeship position that had been vacant since its creation.

Justice Harvie, who earned a Bachelor of Laws from the Université de Montréal, was called to the Quebec Bar in 1997. After clerking for Justice Gonthier at the Supreme Court of Canada, she practised civil litigation before joining the CBC/Société Radio-Canada, where she practised in the areas of media law, civil liability, access to information, and criminal and penal law. There, she was promoted to Associate General Counsel and Executive Director, Media Law, prior to being appointed a judge of the Superior Court on June 4, 2019.

On behalf of all the justices of the Quebec Court of Appeal, Chief Justice Manon Savard extends the warmest of welcomes to Justice Harvie and is delighted by this exceptional appointment, which will contribute to the excellence of the Court’s work.
