Yesterday, the Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced the appointment of the Honourable Éric Hardy as a puisne judge of the Court of Appeal at its seat in Quebec City. He will fill the position of the Honourable Guy Gagnon, who will continue to sit on the Court as a supernumerary judge.
Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court of Quebec in 2018, Justice Hardy, who holds law degrees from Université Laval (1987) and the University of London’s Queen Mary College (1989), was a civil litigator in Quebec City, practising in the areas of civil liability, insurance law and environmental law. He has worked on ensuring access to justice and has mentored young lawyers during his career as a lawyer as well as after being called to the bench.
On behalf of all the justices of the Quebec Court of Appeal, Chief Justice Manon Savard extends Justice Hardy the warmest of welcomes to the Court and is delighted by this excellent appointment, which will benefit the Court as a whole.
