The Honourable Myriam Lachance

Justice Myriam Lachance earned a Bachelor of Laws from the Université de Sherbrooke and was called to the Barreau du Québec in 1994. In 2014, she was appointed a judge in the Criminal and Penal Division of the Court of Québec for the district of Montreal and, in 2017, a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for the same district.

Before becoming a member of the judiciary, she practised in the fields of criminal law, disciplinary law and professional ethics, and she participated in internal police investigations. She acted both for the defence and the prosecution, serving as an agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada and as a prosecutor for the Attorney General of Quebec.

Justice Lachance taught constitutional law at the graduate level at the Université de Sherbrooke and criminal law at both the École du Barreau and in the police technology program at the Cégep de Sherbrooke. She also lectured extensively for the Barreau du Québec on topics including constitutional rights and police powers and duties. She served as bâtonnière of the Barreau de Saint-François (2009-2010) and sat on the board of the Association des avocats et avocates de province (2011-2014) as well as on the executive committee of the Association québécoise des avocats et avocates de la défense (2005-2012).

Justice Lachance was appointed to the Court of Appeal of Quebec on June 18, 2024.
