Born in Saint-Hyacinthe, Justice Jacques Dufresne studied at the Séminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe (B.A. 1969) and is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the Université de Sherbrooke (LL.L 1972). As a member of the Quebec Bar from 1974 to 1998, he first joined the firm Blanshay and Blanshay (1974-1975), then Corbeil, Groleau and Dufresne (1975-1988), and finally Ogilvy Renault (1988-1998).
In 1993-94, he served as president of the Bar of Montreal's Committee on Administrative Tribunals and as president of the Canadian Association of Transportation Lawyers in 1984.
He was appointed to the Quebec Superior Court on June 23, 1998 and to the Court of Appeal of Quebec on May 13, 2005.
