The Honourable Frédéric Bachand

Justice Frédéric Bachand holds a bachelor's degree in law from the Université de Montréal, a master's degree in law from the University of Cambridge and a doctorate carried out jointly at the Université de Montréal and the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II).

Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court of Quebec in 2017, Justice Bachand was a professor at the Faculty of Law at McGill University, where he taught civil procedure, civil evidence, legal interpretation and alternative dispute resolution. Previously, he was a lawyer with the firm of Ogilvy Renault and at the Supreme Court of Canada, where he clerked for Justice Gérard V. La Forest.

In order to highlight his contribution to the law and legal education, the Barreau du Québec awarded him the honorary distinction of Advocatus Emeritus in 2015.

Justice Bachand was appointed to the Court of Appeal of Quebec on November 18, 2020.
