The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced today, March 8, 2019, the appointment of Justice Michel Beaupré to the Court of Appeal of Quebec.
Justice Beaupré was born in Quebec City. He completed his Bachelor of Laws in 1985 at the Université de Sherbrooke, where he subsequently earned a Master of Health Law. Justice Beaupré also holds a Master of Comparative Law from the University of Iowa and a Certificate in Public International Law, Comparative Constitutional Law and History of the Common Law from the University of Mississippi.
Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court of Quebec for the District of Québec in 2014, Justice Beaupré was a partner at Langlois Desjardins (known today as Langlois Lawyers), which he joined in 1990. He began his practice in 1987 at Marquis Huot in Quebec City. Justice Beaupré’s main area of practice was in civil and administrative litigation, with a focus on medical hospital civil liability, health law and Indigenous law.
He was a lecturer in the Health Law Certificate Program at the Université de Montréal and taught about the liability of pharmaceutical product manufacturers as part of seminars offered to graduate students in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Université Laval. He was also a guest lecturer at the Centre d’études en droit économique (CEDE), which is part of the Faculty of Law at Université Laval, where he spoke about tax exemptions available under the Indian Act.
Justice Beaupré was also involved with the Jeune Barreau de Québec, where he held the position of secretary, and with the Quebec Bar, where he served on the disciplinary committee and the France-Quebec joint committee on mediation and where he was a Governor of the Fondation du Barreau du Québec.
