Seminar: New Rules of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in criminal matters and other topics of interest to criminal lawyers

On December 5, 2018, the Bar of Montreal in collaboration with the Court of Appeal of Quebec will hold a seminar presided by Honorable Nicole Duval Hesler, Chief Justice of Quebec, at the Ernest-Cormier Building, location of the Court of Appeal in Montreal, entitled "Nouvelles règles et autres sujets d'intérêt pour les criminalistes". On this occasion, the Chief Justice and the Honorable Justice François Doyon will present the new Rules of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in criminal matters as well as discuss various topics relevant to criminal appeal proceedings, of which: 

  • The inadequate assistance of trial counsel;
  • The upcoming new Rules in penal matters;
  • Applications for release;
  • Motions pursuant to section 680 C.Cr.;
  • The practical consequences of the decision in R. c. Piazza, 2018 QCCA 948.
